Keeping our children safe

Are you too protective  if you want to know where your children are at all times, or because you wont let them go to a friends home that you dont know?  NO!  That is not being to protective, that is being a good parent.  There is not a day that goes by that you dont hear of children being abducted or hurt in some manner.  Teach your children to be safe….teach yourself how to help protect them.  No, I dont want to scare my children but I do want them to be aware of what to do in case of an emergency:

1. Explain what a stranger is….It is not a monster and they can look like me and you.  Example:  I have 2 daughters that live by this rule.  I have a son that thinks the world is lollipops and rainbows.  I really have to stay on him about strangers.  His reply every single time “They dont look like they would hurt me” Be aware

2. Teach children “No, Go, Yell, Tell.” Teach children to say no, run away, yell as loud as they can, and tell a trusted adult if they think they are in a dangerous situation.

3. Know where your children are at all times.

4.  Teach them where a safe place is in your neighborhood in case of emergency.

These are only a few things you can do.  For more information, call your local police/sheriff dept.

Danielle Turner, Realtor I am a full time realtor at Keller Williams-metro south in Alabaster, Al. I graduted at UAB in 1995 with my BSW (social work). I worked with the state of alabama for many many years until I started my family. I now have 3 wonderful sweet babies- Dillon-11yrs, Lindsey-9 yrs old, and Lana Grace- 8 yrs old. I live and focus on the Shelby County area. My niche? All home buyers and sellers. I love people in general and it is the most gratifying feeling when you help someone find "their home". And when selling a home? Well, I have sat down and cried with some of my clients. I understand the emotional bond some have to a home. When I take on a client, I like to look at it as taking on a new friend. Every one of my past clients are now my friends. What a wonderful profession to be in!
